Location: South AfricaA destination ideal for honeymoons and loversSouth Africa offers every excuse for romance in the book! From sumptuously magical train journeys to lodges and hideaways reminiscent of the Africa of last century – when all was still wild and much undiscovered. Our favourite romantic breaks? Taking the Rovos rail from Johannesburg to Cape Town or being captain of your own private boat on Knysna Lagoon. In Johannesburg: Head out of the city to the Magaliesburg for a Hot air balloon trip over the Hartebeespoortdam In Cape Town: Take the Table Mountain Cableway for a view of the city at night. Various Safari Lodges cater for honeymooners with spectacular outdoor plunge pools, Jacuzzi baths and gorgeous king size beds draped in yards of mosquitoe netting. You could also go the spa option for a weekend of being spoiled, pampered and beautified. This is becoming almost popular enough to be a standard added extra! Whether you love the sea, would like to snorkel or wish to become a certified diver / take a follow up diving course; the fantastic weather (especially along the east coast) lends itself almost year round to wonderfully romantic sun and sand adventures. Although it is a typical South African tour option the Garden route can be a fantastic experience for a couple – with easy drives during the day culminating in excellent cuisine and boutique hotels at night. Finally there are also a number of cruise ships from both Durban and Cape Town exploring the seas surrounding South Africa and Mocambique. Other top tips? Do check whether you will be visiting a malaria area and discuss the implications with your doctor at least six weeks before your departure. Ask about the check in and check out times – especially if you are driving. Plan to arrive when your room is available. It is always worth asking about special packages, treatments and exceptional rooms catering specifically for honeymoons or anniversaries. |
