Welcome to, Afrikhaya Guest House, our surprisingly different African home. Your Dutch hosts have been traveling the world for many years and finally lost their hearts and found their souls in this unique part of Africa. We invite you to enjoy an unforgettable experience of African ambiance, magnificent natural beauty and prolific wildlife. Afrikhaya Guest House is located in the North-Eastern part of South Africa on the Elephant Coast in the picturesque village of St.Lucia, which is situated between the warm Indian Ocean and the St.Lucia Estuary.

Only a 2½ hours drive North of Durban into beautiful KwaZulu-Natal you can explore the beauty of the Greater St.Lucia Wetland Park, a in 1999 by UNESCO proclaimed Natural World Heritage Site. Because of our strategic position you can use St.Lucia as a gateway to the Greater St.Lucia Wetland Park and the world famous Hluhluwe / iMfolozi Game Reserve, home to the Big 5. We are blessed with a subtropical climate that ensures good weather all year round and the area is malaria free.

Accommodation

 The unique design and style of the establishment is Afro-contemporary with eye for detail and natural finishes. All four elegantly furnished rooms have private entrance and terrace with spacious en-suite open plan bathroom. Air-conditioner (cooling and heating), ceiling fan, bar-fridge, wall safe, hairdryer and complimentary coffee and tea tray are standard in every room.

In the garden in front of the main house are 2 chalets/ rondavel styled guestrooms and 2 comfortable double rooms with entrance under a thatched veranda are located at the back of the main house. The cozy lounge and dining area overlooking the swimming pool offers a comfortable seating area, satellite television (DSTV), a small library and unique art and crafts.

Breakfast is served inside or outside on the breakfast patio in the tropical garden. Privacy, comfort and “feeling at home” are what this establishment offers. Your hosts will welcome you in English, Dutch, German and a petite peu Francais.

The Rooms

1. Chalet styled Family room with XL King Size Boxspring bed and extra single bed. The stylish open plan bathroom with rain shower is en-suite. Unit has a private deck.

2. Chalet styled double room with XL Twin Boxspring beds and stylish open plan bathroom en-suite. Extra single bed is available upon request. The room has a private deck.

3. Spacious double room with XL King Size Boxspring bed and en-suite open plan bathroom with rain shower. Large wardrobe, ideal for longer stays. Entrance is under a veranda with thatched roof.

4. Spacious double/ single room with XL Queen Size Boxspring bed and en-suite open plan bathroom with rain shower. Entrance is under a veranda with thatched roof.

Rates

Rates until December 2008

Double / Twin Room : R 295,00 - R 320,00 p.p.p.n sharing, inclusive of breakfast.

Single Room : R 420-00 p.p.p.n., inclusive of breakfast.

Children under 6 years old free of charge if sharing with 2 adults.( one child only)

Children from 6 - 11 years pay R 200-00 if sharing with 2 adults.

Children from 12 years of age pay full rates.

Other children rates available on request.

Packages and family or group rates available on request.

Check-inn: from 2.00 pm and check-out:10.00 am.

All our prices are inclusive of 14% VAT.

Directions

From Johannesburg Take the N 12 to Witbank and turn off to Ogies. Go through Bethal, Ermelo, Piet Retief and Pongola. Continue South along the N2 past Mkuze and Hluhluwe. Take turn-off left to Mtubatuba/ St.Lucia. (R 618) Enter Mtubatuba and turn left to St.Lucia and follow this road R 618 for 25.kms. From Durban Take the N2 North to Stanger, Pongola. Approx. 40 kms after the turn-off to Richards Bay, turn right to Mtubatuba / St.Lucia. Turn left at the T-junction in Mtubatuba and the second to the right to St.Lucia, R 618 and follow this road for 25 kms. In St.Lucia Enter St.Lucia over the Estuary Bridge and turn left at the T-junction. Go immediately right into Beach road and take the second to the right Kingfisher Street. Take the second to the left into Kabeljoulaan, Afrikhaya is the third house on the left.
