DescriptionSituated on the North Coast of Kwazulu Natal, just over an hours drive from Durban with direct access from the Midlands via Vryheid/Melmoth and Zululand, is our Mtunzini Forest Lodge. Mtunzini's firm policy of focusing on the natural beauty of the area and promoting conservation is what makes it so special. The town was declared a conservancy in November 1995 and in 1999 received a Conservation Award from the KwaZulu Nature Conservation Services in recognition of its outstanding commitment and contribution to preserving the natural environment of KwaZulu Natal. Guests are over awed by the surrounding of the rich sand forest with the Raphia Palms - "The King of Palms", the home of the very rare Palm Nut Vulture which is now almost synonymous with Mtunzini. It is South Africa's rarest breeding bird of prey, found only here and at Kosi Bay. The lodge boasts 22 beautifully constructed wooden chalets. The chalets, each nestled away in the trees, are cozy and contain all the comforts of home including a private sundeck and braai area. There is a large sparkling swimming pool and a kiddies paddling pool exclusively for the use of the guests. The beaches, appearing to be almost untouched, are accessible along a magnificent wooden bridge which crosses the Siyayi River. Guests can enjoy the serene atmosphere whilst fishing from the shores. A network of trails has been established to offer residents the opportunity to experience the natural attractions of the area. Some of the wildlife that may be encountered on the nature trails through the dune forest are bushbuck, bushpig, as well as various species of duiker. The Twitchers Restaurant, located at the entrance to the Mtunzini Forest Lodge, is open from Tuesday night to Saturday night from 6.30 p.m,where guests can enjoy a sundowner at the pub or choose from a variety of tantalizing dishes available on our a la carte menu. The airconditioned restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch on Sundays. Situated next to the lapa, in close proximity to the restaurant, is the games room with arcade games, pool table and TV. Recreational activities in the area include golf, tennis and squash at the Country Club, bowling at the Bowling Club and riding at the Mtunzini Stables. Water sports, depending on the weather, are water skiing, ski-fishing and paddling. All clubs including the Ski Boat Club, offer special short-term membership for visitors. RatesPlease Note:
