The Rising Sun Guest House stands on Umhlanga Rocks Drive in the tranquil suburb of Durban North. Easy to find from all major highways and very centrally located, The Rising Sun is only minutes away from safe, beautiful beaches, world class golf courses, restaurants, casinos and entertainment centres.
A Virgin Active Club is within easy distance at the La Lucia Mall and the famous Gateway Theatre of Shopping is only a stone’s throw away.

For the business man, it is a five minute drive along Umhlanga Rocks Drive to the Ridge and Gateway office developments and The Umhlanga Hospital Complex.
The Durban CBD and all the city’s international sporting venues and tourist attractions are about a ten minute drive to the south.
Durban International Airport is a twenty minute drive on the ring road and Virginia Airport is literally two minutes down the road.

For the tourist, it is an ideal stop off en-route for the Zululand game reserves (2 hours) and resorts further up the north coast. The area enjoys warm temperate winters (18-22c) and hot humid summers (24-32c).

Bordering a nature conservation area, our large sub-tropical gardens house a koi pond, trampoline and very private swimming pool.
Soak up the sun or just relax after a busy day in the secluded pool garden. Swim in the sparkling water, or sip cocktails under the gazebo.
Enjoy a barbecue or relax with a good book by the koi pond – but mind the croc!

Bush & Ocean View

To the left, the house borders the Virginia Bush Nature Reserve which is widely regarded as one of the best bird-watching sites in Durban.
Relax on the veranda and watch the Vervet monkeys playing in the garden, or simply count the ships as they wait for their turn to enter Durban Harbour.

Accommodation

We have six guest rooms, four en-suite and two, which make up our “family suite”, with an adjacent bathroom.

Our rooms have fabulous sea views. They are all spacious and so we can always “make a plan” with extra beds if necessary. All rooms have satellite television and complimentary tea and coffee facilities.

Room 1 – The Warthog Room : queen sized bed

Room 2 –The Lion Room : king sized bed – or 2 singles + single bed with under bed
This room has a fridge and large en-suite bath/shower room.

Room 3 – The Leopard Room : king sized bed – or 2 singles
These make up our “family suite” and share a large adjacent bath & shower room with separate toilet.

Room 4 – The Elephant Room : queen sized bed
This room has fridge and large en-suite shower room.

Room 5 – The Zebra Room : king sized bed – or 2 singles
This room is on the ground floor and has an en-suite bathroom.
It has a door leading onto the garden veranda.

Room 6 – The Rhino Room : queen sized bed+ 2 single beds with under beds
This room has a fridge and en-suite shower room. It has a private,
covered balcony leading onto the garden. Ideal for a family.
